Meningitis A is an infection that can cause severe brain damage and is often deadly. Since introducing the meningitis vaccine in Africa in December 2010, mass vaccination campaigns have led to the control and near elimination of the deadly meningitis A disease in 26 African “meningitis belt” countries.
